FREE PICTURE FIRST USE : Artist Derek Robertson at Eilean Iarmain on the Sound of Sleat on the Isle of Skye.
Art world success is usually associated with cities, but that hasn’t stopped award-winning wildlife artist Derek Robertson unveiling his biggest solo exhibition this year on the Isle of Skye.
Fife-based Robertson, who has won several awards this year for his paintings, will host a major exhibition of new work this month in the picturesque Gallery An Talla Dearg at Eilean Iarmain on the Sound of Sleat.
Derek has been exhibiting at Gallery An Talla Dearg for 15 years and the shows have proved so successful that he has increased his time at the gallery each year. He believes this represents a wider shift in the art world towards rural galleries.
Derek said: “I think the art market is realising the importance of rural galleries. Many commercial galleries in London are reducing their footprint there and concentrating on areas where people live or where people go on holiday, and the pandemic has hastened this shift.”
